Care & Maintenance

Down needs a little care and very little washing.

Wash only at the end of the season. Frequent washing shortens the life of an ultralight shell
Use a down-specific detergent — never ordinary laundry liquid, and never fabric softener
Cold water, gentle cycle or hand wash. Do not bleach, do not iron
Tumble dry on low heat if you have a dryer; otherwise hang away from direct sunlight and be patient — down takes hours
Patting the garment as it dries helps restore loft
Store it loose, not compressed. Months in a stuff sack flatten down permanently

Tips from X-Boundaries

At 202 g this is the warmest thing most travellers will carry, and it still disappears into a daypack. The dual-axis hood is the detail worth paying attention to: it pulls in behind the head as well as around the face, so it stays put without a helmet to hold it.

The ivory is lovely and it is ivory — on a dusty trail it will show. If the trip is Nepal in spring rather than Hokkaido in winter, consider that before you choose.
