EX Down: World class, high quality down in three grades.
1000 Fill Power EX Down
This is Montbell's highest quality down, and it provides an extreme warmth-to-weight ratio. The down is carefully selected from waterfowls raised in climates with extreme temperature differences.
Super high-quality 900 Fill Power EX Down provides an outstanding warmth-to-weight ratio. The down is sourced from large, mature water fowl.
High-quality 800 Fill Power EX Down provides an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio at a cost-effective price.
The quality of down is indicated with a unit called fill power (FP). When measured at a uniform weight, down with a higher fill power is loftier, holding more air and taking up more space (as shown in the photo below).
What does that mean?
Simply put, using down with a higher fill power allows us to create lighter, more packable pieces of insulation. As an example, let's say we create two identical jackets with the same level of heat retention, but one is filled with 550 fill power down, and the other is filled with 1000 fill power down. The 1000 fill power down jacket will be lighter and more packable. In general, 550 to 700 fill power is considered to be of good quality. However, EX Down surpasses that with 800 to 1000 fill power.
Walls of fabric are inserted to create gusseted, box-shaped baffles. This construction allows down to loft to its maximum heat-retaining potential while reducing cold spots.
A range of options to suit various situations and applications.
Montbell classifies its lineup using the indicators 'lightweight, midweight, heavyweight, and super heavyweight,' with the "heavier" options providing higher insulation. We recommend selecting a product by considering the balance of various features such as insulation, compactness, wind/water resistance (wind, rain, and snow) based on how you intend to use the garment.

To maximize the performance of high-quality down for specific applications, it is also crucial to adopt an appropriate design. By varying the combination of down quantity, down quality, and fabric for each model, Montbell have created a diverse product lineup that caters to a wide range of uses, from midlayers and outerwear for winter activities to everyday wear and even polar expeditions.

Down Leakage and Shifting (38-332)
This product uses a thin fabric to achieve a lightweight and compact design. While the fabric is treated with down-proof finishing, small pieces of down may work their way through the fabric or stitches when the product is pushed and pulled during use. If this occurs, pinch the down from the inside and pull it back into the baffle.
Repeated wear and washing may cause the down to shift or clump. In such cases, gently tap the garment to redistribute the down evenly.
