The lightest pinnacle warmth Montbell makes. The Plasma 1000 Down Jacket is built around 1000 fill power down — Montbell's highest standard — in a shell thin enough that the whole jacket packs down to roughly the size of a softball. It is the layer you carry because you barely notice carrying it.

Specification

  • Insulation: 1000 fill power down
  • Shell: 7-denier Ballistic Airlight nylon ripstop, water-repellent finish
  • Weight: 130 g (supplier reference weight)
  • Model: 1101493

Features

  • Stuff sack included — packs to approximately softball size
  • Down-leakage prevention treatment on the shell fabric
  • Wind-resistant, water-repellent outer

Care & Maintenance

Montbell's own instructions for this garment:

  • Hand wash cold, or a gentle machine cycle with cold water
  • Use a down-specific detergent
  • Do not bleach. Do not iron
  • Hang to dry, away from direct sunlight. If using a dryer, tumble dry on low heat
  • Patting the garment helps restore loft to the down
  • Dry clean with petroleum solvent only
  • Washing once at the end of the season is enough. Frequent washing may damage the fabric

Because the shell is deliberately ultralight, an occasional down cluster may work through the weave. Reach behind the fabric, pull the cluster back into its chamber and gently massage the area — the threads re-align and self-seal.

Tips from X-Boundaries

Most of our customers buy this for two moments: the flight, and the first cold morning. It lives in a daypack rather than a wardrobe — which is the only sensible reason to own 1000 fill power down in Singapore.

On a trek in Japan, Nepal or New Zealand, treat it as the mid-layer under a shell, not the outer layer. The 7-denier fabric is remarkably strong for its weight but it is not built to be dragged against granite or a loaded pack's shoulder straps all day.

Between sizes, or planning a fleece underneath? Size up — Japanese sizing runs closer to the body than European. Come in and try it on; we would rather you got the fit right first time.

Test it on a trip. Our sister company X-Trekkers runs small-group treks from Singapore — Ledang day-climbs, Kinabalu, Japan, Nepal, the Alps. Confirmed trekkers (deposit paid) get 15% off gear here.
